THE PORTICO LIBRARY
25 JAN 2021
The Portico Library is a heritage Library founded in 1806 in central Manchester. They run a yearly creative writing competition aimed at children and young adults called "Sadie Massey Awards". The awards are focused on celebrating the diversity of the Northern identity, past present and future.
We wanted the brand to maintain the classic aesthetic of The Portico Library, while injecting a little more youthful buoyancy and creativity.
The logo design maintained the original brand of The Portico and added "Sadie Massey Awards" in a signature style to represent the human element of the competition and the origins of it. The competition is the legacy of the late Sadie Massey and is funded by her widowed husband.
The Brand Guidelines lay the foundations for the company to be built on, they will guide the creative direction of all future campaigns, maintaining a consistent visual message. Take a look at the full Brand Guidelines document here.
For this year's competition we decided to run a marketing campaign called "What's Your Story?", where we explored the stories of a diverse selection of historical figures from the North of the UK. Giving a brief overview of their story and asking the audience to tell their own story, by entering the competition.
Marketing assets were created for both Digital and Print advertising, maximising the reach and maintaining a consistent message throughout.
Merchandise such as notebooks and bookmarks were created to gift to the participants of the competition and to sell at the Portico Library gift shop.
The competition was a huge success, with hundreds of participants and 4 happy winners. Now we have a great platform to build out a campaign for competitions in the years to come.
