Abeko is a Manchester based Afrobeat Jazz collective, Jamie reached out ahead of their new album release for a full rebrand and album artwork design project. We had several meetings to determine what the band wants to represent. We discovered that the key values were Fun, Energetic, Togetherness and Human.

For the logo we created a hand drawn font with unique accents subtly inspired by text found on Àdìrẹ cloth. We wanted communicate what they interact with culturally without it being too in your face.

This also served as inspiration for the brand pattern, designing a series of icons that represent them, their music, their values and their cultural influences both in Manchester and Africa then arranging these into a repeatable pattern.

This pattern was lino printed onto fabric and fashioned into a hood for a photoshoot for the album cover.

Using their brand colours we injected some of their personality into it.

The concept of the album cover was to convey this sense of rebellion and the political nature of the music. For the vinyl we decided to implement the die cut printing method to cut out the shape of their logo icon and display the pullout underneath, allowing the owner of the vinyl to change the colour to their pleasing.
